Why Our Whole-Body MRI Costs More

A client recently asked: “Why does your scan cost more compared to other full-body MRI providers?”.

It’s a great question. Yes, we do charge more – and here is why that makes a difference.

Body Survey versus Medical-grade Whole-body MRI

At Whole Body MRI™, our fees reflect the difference between a basic “body survey” and true diagnostic-grade medical imaging.

Unlike other providers, our exclusive delivers precision, depth and clarity that others simply cannot match.

  • Non-invasive and radiation-free, without the use of IV contrast (gadolinium)
  • Medical grade protocol also used for cancer staging, not just “screening”
  • Exceed industry standards (e.g. ONCO-RADS) in image resolution and image fidelity
  • Earlier detection across more organs compared to the industry standard.

Image Quality versus Image Fidelity

In whole-body MRI, two key measures define the usefulness of an image: image quality and image fidelity.

  1. Image quality refers to how clear, sharp, and easy to interpret an image appears, influenced by factors like signal-to-noise ratio, contrast, and resolution.
  2. Image fidelity reflects how accurately the image represents the true anatomy and tissue characteristics. In other words, the “faithfulness” of an image to the patient’s body.

Due to the complex physics underpinning MRI, preserving both image quality and image fidelity in full-body imaging is more challenging at 3T. Many 3T providers experience geometric distortion in the key cancer-sequence (DWIBS), and signal loss or increased noise on anatomical sequences. To compensate, others may rely on AI-post processing to de-noise and smooth images. However, these methods compromise image fidelity by altering true signal and potentially obscure subtle (but important) abnormalities.

Whole Body MRI™: Unmatched Image Quality and Fidelity

Through our exclusive customised sequences refined over two decades, by co-founder Ben Kennedy, we are the only provider globally capable of performing a distortion-corrected, full-body DWIBS sequence at 3T. In other words, our innovation delivers unmatched image quality and image fidelity – achieving what others balance as trade-offs.

The Whole Body MRI™ difference:

  • Superior lesion sensitivity across more organs
  • Superior anatomical correlation (i.e. where an abnormality is in the body),
  • Superior tissue characterisation (i.e. is it benign or is it cancerous)
  • Superior radiologist confidence (i.e. reduced indeterminate findings)

Importance of Radiologist-Led Expertise in Full Body MRI

A scan’s value depends not only on the technology, but also on the expertise behind its interpretation. Our co-founder Dr Zane Sherif is Australia’s most experienced 3T whole-body reporting radiologist, having interpreted over 750 scans to date (as of Mar 2026). Importantly, his experience extends beyond screening to include cancer staging whole-body MRI for real-world cancer presentations. This breadth of experience ensures a highly practiced eye, better equipped to detect subtle changes with greater confidence and accuracy.

Often overlooked by individuals and their referring doctors, the experience of the reporting radiologist is essential for refining and optimising imaging protocols, ensuring that each scan delivers meaningful and reliable information.

This level of experience and involvement provides:

  • Greater accuracy and reliability
  • Greater confidence in negative findings and
  • Reduces the number of indeterminate results that lead to unnecessary follow-up imaging.

After all, the true purpose of these scans is confidence in findings, and in turn, peace of mind.

Co-founder, Dr Zane Sherif is a highly experienced full-body MRI reporting radiologist with over 600 scans interpreted since 2022.

Innovative Technology That Goes Further

Our technology extends beyond MRI. By integrating multiple imaging modalities within Australia’s most advanced imaging centre, we offer a more complete view of your health than any other full body MRI provider in Australia.

In addition to full-body MRI scan, our Whole Body MRI™ packages also include:

  • A lung health scan with our low-dose Spectral CT which dramatically enhances lesion sensitivity.
  • Heart disease and stroke risk assessment with our low-dose CT coronary calcium scoring to evaluate risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • Metabolic and bone health assessment with our research-grade DEXA body composition and bone mineral density (Only available in Advanced Whole Body MRI™ and Executive Packages).
  • Option to include additional targeted imaging ultrasound scans for even greater confidence.

Our Advanced Whole-body MRI packages offer the option to add more multi-modality comprehensive imaging scans.

We Invest More at Every Step

At Whole Body MRI™, every stage of our imaging pipeline is designed to deliver confidence through precision. From exceptional patient experience, customised 3T acquisition protocols and distortion-corrected sequences, multi-modality targeted assessments, and expert interpretation, each step is carefully refined to preserve both image quality and image fidelity. This level of integration and expertise is what truly sets us apart.

So, when asked why our scan costs more, the answer is simple. We invest more in every point of the imaging pipeline: technology, refinement, and expertise. The result are comprehensive whole-body imaging packages that provide the highest standard of clarity, accuracy, and confidence commercially available.

Our Advanced Packages, Costs, and Scan inclusions can be found on our Packages page.
